Is it an e-bike? Not at all. We’ll go into further depth about the main distinctions between the EMOVE Roadrunner V3 and an e-bike. In terms of this form factor, it seems to me that people aren’t particularly considerate to scooter riders. Compared to my expectations, the dependability score of 7.4 out of 10 is lower. The battery’s drawback, even though it is made of high-quality Dynavolt cells, is that it is not UL-listed.

To Pedal Or Not to Pedal?

The RoadRunner V3 allows you pretend to have an e-bike with the $50 add-on pedals and drivetrain. Due of the little crank throw, they are essentially simply cosmetic even if they are functional. You won’t be able to go very far because this just has one speed.

The throttle and pedals aren’t actually connected to each other, the bike doesn’t have a torque sensor, so it doesn’t know how hard you’re pushing on the pedals, and it doesn’t have a cadence sensor, so it won’t turn on the motor when you pedal.

These are some more reasons why this isn’t an e-bike. The only purpose of the pedals is to provide the appearance of an e-bike.

One reason you might not want them is that they do add a little weight. When you lean into corners, you lose the ability to control your feet side by side.

You also lose part of your ground clearance. If you are going around a corner with your pedal down, you will grind out a bit sooner than you would with the conventional pegs.

Alright, so since it has pegs rather of a deck, we may conclude that it isn’t strictly a scooter. For the reasons mentioned above, it’s also not exactly an e-bike. “The world’s first electric scooter bike hybrid,” as Voro Motors refers to it, is not a term I would use if I were stopped.

On the positive side, no one will mind if you call it an ebike if you have the pedals attached. Over the years, I’ve found that when I ride a RoadRunner about town without pedals, police rarely notice, and cars treat me with more respect than they would if I were on a standing scooter.
